CONCLUSION: Malnutrition criteria seem to better reflect CT-derived measures of psoas muscle area compared to density. Including muscle density measures alongside malnutrition assessments may improve clinical outcome predictions in liver transplant patients and allow for development of more targeted nutrition interventions.

CONCLUSIONS: Mothers with a GDM diagnosis had higher milk concentrations of LNFP III and 6'SL, and 6'SL was in turn associated with increased infant growth rate, but neither HMO was associated with differential infant gut microbial abundances. The results suggest that the link between 6'SL and faster infant growth, if causal, occurs via mechanisms independent of the infant gut microbiome. CONCLUSION: BIA is a feasible tool for measuring body composition among preterm infants. Existing published equations demonstrate reasonable agreement with ADP but require a correction factor to adjust for bias. A novel prediction equation specific to preterm infants might offer improved agreement and reduced bias.

CONCLUSION: In this review, we affirm the importance of HM for all infants, especially clinical populations. An understanding of how HM composition is modulated by maternal and environmental factors is important to progress the field forward with respect to mechanistic links between HM biology and infant health outcomes.

CONCLUSION: Preliminary results suggest infants with greater abdominal muscle thickness may reach full oral feedings at an earlier PMA (nearly 1 week per millimeter). Thus, ultrasound measurements of abdominal muscle thickness may be helpful in assessing readiness for discharge in healthy preterm infants. Further research is needed for development and validation of a prediction equation.

CONCLUSIONS: In a predominantly fully breastfeeding cohort of women, maternal intake of fat and added sugar during pregnancy and lactation were associated with small increases in infant adiposity and relative weight at 6 mo. Additional research is needed to determine if these relations persist later in infancy and if such elevations in adiposity are important for long-term obesity risk.

CONCLUSIONS: Pectoralis muscle size and attenuation were powerful predictors of outcomes after LVAD implantation in this data set. This one time, repeatable, internal assessment of patient substrate added valuable prognostic information that was not available on standard preoperative testing.
